Applying for a Visa to Malaysia

As per immigration laws, tourists will require a valid visitor’s visa before entering the country. There are two options available to obtain a visa in Malaysia. The first is to file a physical application and the second is to apply online through the e-visa scheme. It should be noted that only nationals of the following countries can file for an e-Visa:

  • Nepal
  • Bangladesh
  • Myanmar
  • Pakistan
  • Bhutan
  • China
  • Sri Lanka
  • Montenegro
  • India
  • Serbia

It should be further noted that the e-Visa is only valid for a stay of up to 30 days in the country. No extensions will be allowed on this visa.

Visa application process to Malaysia

You may do this process online (refer to list of countries above) or you can file for this application at your country’s respective Malaysian embassy. You may make the online application here.

In order to file for a visa, you will need to first have the following documents prepared:

  • The applicant’s original passport (needs to be valid for at least 6 months)
  • Two clear copies of the applicant’s passport
  • Two copies of the visa application form (Form IMM.47)
  • Two passport sized and recent photographs of the applicant
  • Original flight tickets (with the return ticket)
  • Two copies of the flight tickets
  • Bank statement of the applicant
  • Proof of payment of visa processing fee

Once you have all these documents prepared, you may submit the filled in form with all attached either online or to the nearest Malaysian Embassy. If all your documents are verified, the procedure may take from 48 hours to 7 working days.
